Make A Play Area In Your Garden

    By Flower | September 8, 2010

Kids love being in the outdoors. There are countless opportunities for adventures in a back garden. Do you have an outdoor space that yould be transformed into a play area? If you do, that is great it is so easy to design a play area like this in your garden too.

Analyze the space you have and decide what size of play equipment you can install in that area. This is the first thing you have to do before you can draw out a plan where to put everything. Also in your planning remember that the area needs to be safe for the kids to play in.

Decide whether you are going to have a sand pit, swing and slide set, pool, playhouse and/or a children’s garden included in your plan. Around and under any of the play equipment there should be appropriate padding of some sort. This could be mulch, grass, bark, or even rubber that has been shredded. It will take several inches of one of these materials down. The best material for this is wet pour rubber.

Obviously, you’ll want to decide what’s going in the garden before you lay down the safety surfacing. You will want to put a fence up if you decide to install a pool, as you only want children going in there if they are carefully supervised. Even though a pool is great for the kids to splash around in they can be dangerous when not supervised so remember this about it before putting one in.

You can get play sets today that include swings, slides, and even a fort-like area. Most of these are made from cedar these days so they look great in a garden area. They also last longer than the metal ones do. So figure out what size play set will work for your area. You can choose to build it yourself or pay professionals to install it.

Add a sand box for your children to enjoy for hours of digging fun. You also need a cover for the sand box too to keep the sand dry and free of debris. Your kids will make tracks, sand castles and any other thing their imagination dreams up.

Nothing does more for the imagination than a play house. Boys can pretend they are knights in a castle, pirates guarding booty or even the good old cowboys and Indians with a fort. The girls can play house with their dolls and have tea parties. A simple play house can be re-purposed to suit whatever theme is your child’s favourite, and can easily be changed too as their interests move on.

You may have your little ones design their own garden too within this area. This is a great way of teaching them about the science of plants. If they are crops, they might even begin to enjoy their vegetables this way.

Taking all these things into consideration is how to design a children’s play area in your garden . Having a safe place for your children to play at home will keep them from needing to go elsewhere for fun. This means you will know where your kids are and that they are safely having a good time in their own backyard.
