How To Lay A Paver Brick Patio: Tools and Materials
Check that you have all the tools and materials needed for building your patio. Price compare costs at hardware stores within your vicinity.
The tools you need:
wood stakes, mason’s cord, measuring tape, shovel, tamper, rubber mallet, rake, spirit level, workmen’s gloves, 2″ x 4″ boards, stiff bristle broom, garden hose with a fine spray
The materials you require:
a rot-proof and permeable membrane, paver bricks, paver edging, paver’s sand and gravel

How To Lay A Paver Brick Patio: Laying the Pavers
Create the outline of the patio using the stakes and mason’s cord. Check measurements carefully to ensure the shape is a square.
Take your shovel and lift grass or soil approximately 2 inches around your boundary. This is where the edging will be placed once the patio has been laid.
Dig the area inside the boundary down to a depth of 6 to 7 inches depending on thickness of paver stones You should allow 3 inches for the gravel and one inch for the sand. Check that the dugged out area is level.
Remove your stakes and mason’s cord.
Completely cover the bottom of your hole with landscape fabric. This is an absolute must. It allows drainage but helps prevent those unwanted weeds growing between the pavers.
Por the gravel into the base. Use 2″ x 4″ board to smooth out the gravel. Compact down the gravel using the tamper. Take care to ensure the gravel is level. After all you want a level patio.
Pour the sand in and rake over to cover the gravel. Smooth out the sand using your 2 x 4 board. Use tamper to compact it.Check measurement to ensure base is still level.
Begin laying the paver bricks. Start at one end and work down. Regularly check to ensure your bricks are level.
When you finished laying the pavers, put down the edging.
Spread sand over the patio. Use the stiff bristle broom to do this. Then use garden hose to gently wash the sand down into the joints.
